چکیده

Abstract Key message Bark stripping wounds by red deer ( Cervus elavus L.) were assessed on 9026 Norway spruce trees. Wound variables (length, width, area, relative height above ground, and angle) analysed using generalized additive models with spatial soap film smoothers. Wounds located at the uphill side of trees larger in summer than winter, wound size depended diameter breast (DBH) was spatially clustered. Context In Austria, elaphus is main species causing bark wounds. they often gnaw because food scarcity; summer, large pieces are detached to help digestion, water, nutrient uptake or as social behaviour. Aims The aim this study analyse width (i.e., divided stem circumference)) position (height angle deviation between azimuth from slope line)) for winter depending stand attributes describe patterns within stands. Methods A total 3832 nine experimental stands Picea abies (L.) Karst.) 47° 19’ N 14° 46’ E an elevation 1009–1622 m analysed. linear regression model fit length over each season. For all (wound length, position, (GAM) smoothers, which predict patterns, fitted. Results Of wounds, 79.5 % inflicted 20.5 summer. Control of red deer (Cervus elaphus) stag domination in rut season by estrus synchronization

BACKGROUND: Inbreeding is one of the major problems of small size herds of red deer in refuge wildlife parks. OBJECTIVES: The aim of the present study was to use estrus synchronization technique in red deer (Cervus elaphus) based on natural mating to control the dominancy and social rank of stags and inbreeding. METHODS: In this study, hinds (n=6) were captured and caged at breeding season (ear...

HYBRIDISATION BETWEEN RED DEER (Cervus elaphus) AND OTHER DEER SPECIES

Red deer (R) are the predominant species of farmed deer in New Zealand. There is considerable interest in hybridisation with other deer species to improve growth rate and possibly alter the breeding season of the progeny. Analysis of gestation lengths indicates that the progeny of Canadian wapiti (CW) or CW x R deer have gestation lengths intermediate between the parental strains but the progen...

The effect of cyproterone acetate on the antler cycle in red deer (Cervus elaphus L.).

The aim of the study was to test the effect of antiandrogen, cyproterone acetate (CA) on the antler cycle in the red deer (Cervus elaphus). CA was administered to three adult red deer stags (Edward, Fuks and Gacek) in weekly intervals. Edward and Fuks were given 600 mg + 600 mg of CA, whereas Gacek was given 600 mg + 300 mg. CA was injected during the hard antler phase: in mid-October (Edward),...
